- All project managers are factory certified and trained in every division
- Overseeing every project from cradle to completion
Startup Team
- Entry point for new team members — trained to start up networks, download controllers, perform point-to-point checkouts, and assist with sequences of operation
Installation Team
- Responsible for installing select Woodman projects
- Assist electrical contractors with our installation standards
Engineering & Software Team
- Hands-on staff who work in the field to verify engineering and software standards
- In-house IT department supporting all staff and developing new internal tools
Sales Team
- Available to travel to additional states upon customer request

Our Story
Deep Roots, Steady Growth
From a small-town electrical shop in Fort Dodge to the Midwest’s trusted building automation partner — eight decades of evolving to serve you better.
Roots Take Hold
Walter Woodman founded Woodman Electric in Fort Dodge, Iowa — a hometown electrical company built on hard work and handshake integrity.
A New Chapter Begins
Jim Moench purchased Woodman Electric from Walter Woodman, carrying forward the company's tradition of quality industrial electrical work across the region.
Embracing the Digital Shift
Woodman began installing Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, recognizing early on that the future of buildings was intelligent and automated.
A New Branch Grows
The controls division was officially launched, adding building automation expertise alongside the electrical business — a move that would define the company's future.
Forging Our Own Path
The electrical division was sold and three partners began the buyout of Woodman Controls. That same year, we adopted the Tridium platform — setting the foundation for open, integrated building systems.
Putting Down New Roots
Woodman Controls established its Des Moines branch, which quickly grew into our headquarters and the hub of operations we know today.
Reaching East
We expanded into Eastern Iowa, bringing our independent, vendor-neutral approach to a broader network of facilities. A fourth partner joined the ownership buyout, strengthening the team.
Ownership Completed
The ownership transition was finalized — same dedicated faces, same commitment to clients. Woodman Controls became fully led by the people who built it from the inside.
